The troubles are deep in this part of the woods. Fortunately we have plenty of potatoes.

[ Why so alone? ]

---

Alone

The boy grinded his head against his cotton pillow. His tears soaked into the soft material. The pain, he thought, why doesn't it end? Transparent and undistinguishable colours filled the darkness as he rubbed his eyes with his fists. He rolled over and pulled the heavy sheets above his shoulders. He sweated, it was summer, but he refused to sleep with anything lighter. The heavy quilt was comforting as he rested on his back, the blankets pressing down on his chest. He thought about her once again. His chest tightened once again. Once more, he rolled over, and his forehead met the damp pillow. He whispered to the darkness, Please, just let it stop. The boy waited and listened. The darkness responded, as well as it could. With silence.

Tears welled in the boy's eyes once again. The boy threw a corner of the heavy blankets off him, they landed on itself in a fold. He stood up and walked to his window. He stared at the street light outside his house. Eyelids kissed eyelids and teardrops turned to glittering lines down his cheeks. They dried before reaching his neck. He looked past the street light. The boy took a deep breath. His focus rose towards the sky. Clouds cleared the heavens, and illuminated by an unseen sun, the moon shone down upon him. The boy sighed slowly. He stared at the moon, refusing to replenish his lungs. He looked away from the ancient satellite, and continued to breath. He slid into his bed, he was cold now. He closed his eyes, allowing the warm embrace of the quilts press heavily against his chest. He drifted off asleep, and dreamed of a lonely existance.

Sometimes you feel alone without that special someone. You're never alone when you are with friends. So ask yourself, why do you feel so alone?
